I haven't always been a fan of linux distros, Mainly because of the look,I felt that the operating systems were too cartoonish in there themes and icons,I was surfing around one day and came upon a thread on a web site, This person was raving about a new distro called "e17" and it had a link to a youtube video of "e17" in action,

http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Dv38FnpII-l8&ei=Xg4TS8x6hfmcB8HrmdkD&sa=X&oi=spellmeleon_result&resnum=1&ct=result&ved=0CAcQhgIwAA&usg=AFQjCNEcwjkwLfgZQKcWAs43rIt_15NdzA

And I was very impressed, so I searched a bit and found the e17 web site.

http://www.enlightenment.org/

And downloaded elive, And was really taken by how lite the e17 interface was,And after finding out you can install the enlightenment environment to Ubuntu,And did so,it was so easy to navigate and operate, and has some of the greatest animated themes, Oh and the animated backgrounds and icons found here on e17 - stuff is truly amazing ! All in all e17 will be force to be reckoned with in the dog eat distro world of Linux,As the world becomes more accustom to the ease of use and stability as well as dependability and integrity of Linux,e17 will definitely be one of the shinning stars on top !! I suggest trying elive for yourself, and after you fall in love with it, it will be more than worth the donation it takes to install this truly amazing work of art !!
Please let me know how you feel about e17 good or bad,Rant or rave! and I will be sure to pass it on !!

 Release??

I LIKE E-LIVE and the philosophy of making a WM look good as well as functional. However, it's been in development since '05 -i think. Also, they have not had a stable release to date. Does anyone have any inside info on their plans to release this WM? Or, is E17 doomed to remain unfinished pie in the sky?

Hey thanks for that input ! I have recently installed e17 and ecomorph (A hack of compiz) (shell) in Ultimate Edition 2.4 And It works well BUT you need a very high end cpu and graphic card to handle it!, But with ecomorph off all the modules work beautifully, I especially like the fire module !! After installing e17 from here:
http://www.webupd8.org/2009/05/how-to-install-enlightenment-e17-in.html
Then going to synaptic and searching "e17" "ecomorph" and all the other modules are there, I have installed them all and still experimenting!!
As far as a stable release goes, I haven't seen anything as yet. But as I understand it e17 is a "one man" show as far as development, I am sure there are testers but, One man can only due so much and with no real Base distro to work from it might take some time to get to the stable version!

You don't need a monster pc for ecomorph; if you can handle compiz you can handle ecomorph just as well. I have a very modest 2.4 GHz 512Mb RAM pc with 64 or 128 Mb nvidia graphics card (fx5200) and only blur causes trouble, the rest is fine.

e17+ecomorph ftw, I've used it for a year and a half now and despite being in development it is as stable as anything. Still I'm looking forward to an official release, it may encourage the development of more e17 applications.
